Spoken Word Real Talk – Ep 1: Cold eyes

ree

Huh… I see you.

Well hello, you there.

You might be confused—but don’t be.

Your eyes… they’re cold, aren’t they?

Not literally.

But deep in the soul… I see the frost.

You see the world through ice lenses.

Cold eyes.

Eyes that have seen pain,

Not once… but again

and again

and again.

Kid, let me tell you something—

There are two paths these cold eyes can take you.

Path A.

You see past the joy in a happy moment

Only to find the cold beneath it.

You smile,

but your mind don’t match.

You laugh,

but your spirit stays detached.

You think everyone—

everyone is out to hurt you.

To break you.

To betray you.

Or… Path B.

You learn that pain is part of the world.

That you ain’t exempt.

But when the bad comes—

You lean on God.

You breathe, you learn, you keep stepping.

You let yourself feel the joy when it comes.

You don’t trust everybody—

but you trust Him.

And He gives you discernment.

See—Path A?

That’s unbalanced.

That’s being naïve.

That’s exactly what the enemy wants.

To isolate you.

To lie to you.

To drown you in the storm of your own suspicion.

But Path B?

That’s discipline.

That’s surrender.

That’s strength.

That’s what God wants.

How do I know?

Because I’ve walked them both.

I’ve seen the reflection of my cold eyes

in every mirror I dared to look at.

And kid…

It takes one to recognize one.

Now listen—

From someone who’s lived through the fracture,

Who’s stood in both storms with these cold, cold eyes—

Path B is harder.

But it’s better.

It’s real.

It’s fulfilling.

It leads you home.

Path A will leave you

more shattered than you even know.

You think you’re broken now?

Stay on that path,

and you’ll forget what whole ever looked like.

But don’t be discouraged.

If you’re on Path A—

You can still turn around.

God hasn’t given up on you.

He’s not the giving-up type.

It’s never too late

to turn your pain

into power.

To let your scars

become your testimony.

To let your story

be the evidence of what God can do.

Me?

I lived on Path A for a long time.

Felt hopeless.

Felt numb.

Felt like life was a punishment, not a gift.

But God?

He stayed.

He walked with me.

For four years, I crawled

until I could stand again.

And even when I fell—

He never walked away.

And He won’t leave you either.

So don’t stop.

Even if you fall—get back up.

Even if your eyes stay cold—

let Him melt them one tear at a time.

And if you haven’t chosen a path yet…

Let me be real with you:

Path A almost ended me.

Left me in a dark place

questioning if life was worth it at all.

But it is.

You are.

That’s not how God wants you to live.

That’s not why He breathed life into your lungs.

So until we meet again,

Remember this…

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.”

Luke 21:34

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?

Though she may forget, I will not forget you.”

Isaiah 49:15

Cold eyes don’t have to stay cold forever.

Let God warm them.

Let Him lead you.

Let Him love you.

Because He already does.

Real talk.
